What is Equine Therapy?

Equine Therapy is Learning about yourself through work with horses.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is a partnership between a licensed Psychologist , Professional Equestrians, and Horses. Through this unique partnership, Life Lessons are taught in a schooling barn environment.

EAP is beneficial for many conditions and/or issues.  It can benefit children with ADHD, ADD, Learning disabilities, behavioral problems, communication skills. It helps adults with degenerative diseases retrain muscles and regain strength and muscle memory. It helps addicts find a healthy "high" and unconditional love and support. Equine Therapy helps families improve their communication. Equine Therapy teaches management teams how to work as a "Team".   The benefits of Equine Assisted Therapy are infinite.

Sky Dog Ranch clients are taught as individuals. Each Lesson presents itself.  Every time we work with an individual or group the horses guide the work and we work within their leadership to facilitate growth, learning, health and well being.

 What are the benefits of

Equine Assisted Therapy?

  • A visceral, tactile understanding, beyond intellectual awareness
  • An opportunity to identify patterns and re-examine their usefulness
  • A non-threatening environment to try out new behaviors and receive instant feedback
  • Immediate results and "aha's" in just one session

Young Adults and Adolescents

Frequently we work with children and teenagers who are struggling, and can assist youth and their families in dealing with a variety of childhood behavioral problems.

Issues of concern

  • Impulsivity
  • Poor decision making
  • Difficulty handling frustration
  • Argumentative behavior
  • Difficulty accepting responsibility

How is Equine Assisted Therapy especially appropriate for youth?

Equine Assisted Therapy does not 'feel like therapy'.  It is especially suited for youth, in that it's not an office-based intervention.  Equine Assisted Therapy is engaging, interesting and FUN!  EAP does not require youth to be verbal about their thoughts & feelings; instead it allows them the opportunity to try out new behaviors and get feedback from an unbiased source: the horse.

What kind of Equine Therapy is offered at Sky Dog Ranch?

We offer Equine Assisted Therapy based on the EFMHA (Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association) and EAGALA (the Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning Association) models.  Both are international organizations that provide training and certification in this field, as well as establish standards of practice, ethics, and safety.

Equine Assisted Therapy sessions are $65.00 per session.

Packages and work programs are available.
